A phytosanitary audit has begun to assess the potential export of Petunia and Calibrachoa flowers from Guatemala to the European Union. The purpose of this evaluation is to ensure that these ornamental species meet the biosecurity and traceability standards required by international markets.
The inspection process is focused on confirming compliance with regulations and phytosanitary requirements, which is necessary for Guatemalan products to be free from pests of quarantine concern.
During the audit, technicians from the Directorate of Plant Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) presented national procedures for inspection, certification, and pest management. According to MAGA, these measures help strengthen the country’s agricultural health system.
The audit began on November 11 in coordination with representatives from the European Union. It is part of MAGA's ongoing efforts to create new trade opportunities, promote agricultural competitiveness, and encourage sustainable growth in Guatemala’s ornamental plant sector.
