Cruz Roja Guatemalteca, in partnership with UNHCR and other organizations at the Center for Attention to Migrants and Refugees (CAPMIR-Flores), recently organized a health and psychosocial support event at El Ceibo border in La Libertad, Petén. The initiative aimed to serve both the host community and mixed migration flows in the area.
During the event, participants received essential services such as vital signs monitoring and psychosocial support. Health teams conducted thorough assessments to check physical well-being, while professionals offered assistance addressing emotional and psychological needs.
The organization emphasized that focusing on psychosocial support is key for helping individuals manage stress and challenges linked to mobility and displacement. "La Cruz Roja Guatemalteca, junto con ACNUR, se comprometió a proporcionar una atención integral que aborde tanto las necesidades físicas como emocionales de los residentes y los desplazados en la región," stated Cruz Roja Guatemalteca.
Support from UNHCR played an important role by providing resources and expertise needed for an effective response. The collaboration between Cruz Roja Guatemalteca and UNHCR demonstrates a shared commitment to health and well-being for people affected by forced movement.
Cruz Roja Guatemalteca continues its work with international partners to assist vulnerable and displaced communities. According to the organization, "La jornada de Frontera El Ceibo es un ejemplo del esfuerzo continuo para mejorar las condiciones de vida y proporcionar apoyo a quienes más lo necesitan."
