The General Accident Hospital "Ceibal" provided immediate care to 34 people injured in a traffic accident that occurred on the Tinco Bridge in zone 7 of Mixco. Six patients were reported in serious condition and remain under close observation in the Emergency Area.
Medical and nursing staff quickly evaluated those affected, using distinctive bracelets for identification. Each patient underwent radiological studies and received appropriate treatment. Some remain hospitalized for observation, while others have been discharged based on their health status.
Mayra Zuñiga, a 31-year-old woman who is eight months pregnant, described her experience: she was standing at the front of a crowded bus headed to the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (IGSS) for a medical check-up when the accident happened. "I think one of the bus tires broke down, which caused us to overturn," she said.
Zuñiga explained that several people fell on top of her during the accident. Concerned about her pregnancy, she managed to exit through a window. She was taken to Ceibal General Accident Hospital where she received prompt medical attention from doctors and nurses.
"I thought I had been attended quickly because of my pregnancy, but I realized that all those affected by the bus accident were treated immediately because we were given distinctive bracelets; they did an ultrasound for me; thank God and the doctors we are stable; they told me that due to my condition I would be transferred to the Gynecology Hospital for further medical checks," Zuñiga said.
María Andrea Yoc Morales, an IGSS member, expressed gratitude for the quick response and highlighted the importance of social security protection.
Nicolasa Rodríguez also thanked Ceibal hospital staff for their care after suffering minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Dr. Katherine Reyes, head of the Emergency Area, stated there were no fatalities from this incident and confirmed that six out of 34 patients remained hospitalized while comprehensive care continues. She reaffirmed "the commitment of Ceibal General Accident Hospital with the health and well-being of its beneficiaries."
