The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) has participated in the “Con Luz Propia” events organized by the Ministry of Economy, which have taken place in Cobán, Alta Verapaz; San Pedro Sacatepéquez, San Marcos; Quezaltepeque, Chiquimula; and Zacapa. The initiative aims to help women entrepreneurs formalize their businesses, improve business training, and highlight the advantages of operating legally. These benefits include access to financing, participation in formal markets, and compliance with legal requirements.

During these events, IGSS staff from the Subgerencia de Prestaciones Pecunarias provided guidance to women entrepreneurs on how to register as employers through the IGSS electronic services portal. This digital platform allows users to review requirements, submit applications, and complete necessary forms for registration.

Participants were also informed about additional IGSS programs such as pensions for disability, old age, and survivors (IVS), as well as insurance covering illness, maternity, and accidents (EMA). These programs offer subsidies and social protection for workers and their families.

Another service presented was the Company Clinic Care System, which brings medical coverage and workplace health attention directly to work centers.

Alongside IGSS, other institutions such as the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT), Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Environment also took part in these sessions.

According to IGSS: "With these actions, IGSS brings its services closer to the population, demonstrating that we are an IGSS closer to you!"

The “Con Luz Propia” program is part of a broader effort by various government agencies to support small business owners throughout Guatemala by promoting formalization and providing direct access to information about available resources.
