The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) marked the 25th anniversary of its Unidosis System with a commemorative symposium. The event brought together technical staff, pharmacists, institutional authorities, and specialists to discuss experiences and developments in pharmaceutical management within the organization.
Dr. Francisco Javier Gódinez Jerez, Deputy Manager of Health Benefits at IGSS, opened the symposium. He stated that the Unidosis System has helped improve quality of care and optimize processes in Social Security hospitals. “These 25 years represent the evolution of the Institute towards safer, more efficient, and more humane care,” he said during his remarks.
During the event, participants addressed topics such as integrating pharmacy teams into interdisciplinary hospital work, pharmaceutical intervention, management and safety in distribution systems, and challenges to achieving a more efficient and humane model. Presentations highlighted knowledge sharing and emphasized the role of technological innovation in strengthening traceability and safety in medication administration.
Licenciada Celendi Martínez delivered a presentation titled “Towards a safer, more efficient, and more humane distribution system,” focusing on progress made and ongoing challenges within the Unidosis model. Attendees participated in a question-and-answer session where they discussed concerns and shared opinions about how Unidosis is applied across different areas of Social Security. They noted its positive impact on reducing errors and optimizing resources.
Dr. Ana Gabriela Córdova spoke about “The role of the pharmacy team in interdisciplinary hospital work,” emphasizing coordination’s importance for patient care.
At the closing ceremony, authorities recognized personnel responsible for Unidosis for their dedication over its 25-year history. Through this commemoration, IGSS aims to promote innovation, patient safety, and quality health services for its beneficiaries.
