The recent Farmer's Fair in Santa María Chiquimula, Totonicapán, has provided economic benefits to the area. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) and aimed to support both local producers and consumers.

About 18 local farmers participated in the fair. They received support from MAGA's departmental office, which helped with organizing the event space and offered training sessions on entrepreneurship, market access, and food safety.

According to MAGA, this assistance allowed producers to sell fresh and quality products at accessible prices. Both the farmers and community members from nearby areas benefited from these sales.

Products available at the fair included chayote squash, lettuce, bell peppers, radishes, and tomatoes. There were also entrepreneurial goods such as honey and its derivatives, natural fruit drinks, preserves, textiles, and handmade baskets.

Through initiatives like the Farmer's Fair, MAGA seeks to strengthen family and local economies by encouraging direct sales without intermediaries. This approach supports local harvests and helps expand markets for small-scale farmers.

"MAGA drives family and local economies through the Farmer’s Fair by promoting better prices since intermediaries are not used for product sales. It encourages local harvests and expands markets for farmers," according to a statement from MAGA.
