At the recent BCIE Business Forum, which focused on promoting energy transition in Guatemala and private sector investment opportunities, Minister of Energy and Mines Víctor Hugo Ventura discussed two major tenders launched this year: PET-3 and PEG-5.

Ventura said, "In Guatemala we have responsibly taken on the challenge of building a cleaner, more competitive and resilient energy system that not only guarantees electricity supply but also encourages private investment, technological innovation and inclusive economic growth."

The forum was attended by Gisella Sánchez, Executive President of BCIE, as well as representatives from embassies, international organizations, public institutions and private companies in the energy sector.

Ventura emphasized that the PEG-5 tender is "a fundamental milestone in our energy planning; this initiative opens a historic window for the private sector to actively participate in expanding generation capacity, incorporating new renewable sources and strengthening our energy security."

During the event it was also noted that there are already 26 potential companies interested in bidding for PEG-5. Ventura highlighted that BCIE acts as a financial intermediary capable of providing necessary funds for these projects.

He added his optimism about securing needed transmission infrastructure to ensure the success of PEG-5 for the Government of Guatemala.
