The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) held a workshop in Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, Sacatepéquez, to train local tomato producers on the preparation and use of sulfocalcic broth as an organic insecticide and fungicide. The training included both theoretical and practical sessions.

During the event, participants learned how to make sulfocalcic broth, its uses, benefits, and necessary precautions. Field demonstrations showed how the product can be applied to control whiteflies and other common tomato pests.

According to MAGA officials, using this practice reduces reliance on agrochemicals. This approach helps improve soil health and fruit quality while lowering production costs. It also encourages sustainable farming practices that can lead to better yields.

MAGA’s departmental team provided educational materials and managed logistics for the workshop. They also offered ongoing technical support for those interested in adopting these methods.

The instruction was delivered by MAGA technical specialists with assistance from the local Extensionist for Rural Agricultural Development. Members of the Rural Development Learning Center participated in the event.
