A group called Centros de Aprendizaje para el Desarrollo Rural (CADER) in the Santa Rosa La Zarca community of Melchor de Mencos, Petén, participated in a training session focused on nutrition and food security. The session was led by Guadalupe Leonardo, a rural home technician from the Municipal Rural Extension Agencies (AMER), which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA).

The purpose of the event was to improve the knowledge of participating families about food security and nutrition. "The aim was to strengthen the knowledge of participating families in topics related to food security and nutrition, promoting actions that contribute to a better quality of life," said Leonardo.

During the practical part of the training, attendees learned how to prepare chaya buns using local ingredients rich in nutrients. "This experience allowed for rescuing culinary traditions and encouraging healthier habits among families," according to organizers.

The initiative also aimed at making sustainable use of natural resources available in rural areas. By focusing on locally sourced foods and traditional recipes, participants were encouraged to work towards self-sufficiency and comprehensive development within their region.
