The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) of Guatemala addressed recent rumors on social media regarding its relationship with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and provided updates on ongoing road maintenance activities in Alta Verapaz.
On November 4, 2025, the ministry clarified via Twitter that it has not entered into any contracts with UNOPS concerning the remodeling of La Aurora International Airport. This clarification came amid speculation about contract cancellations involving UNOPS and major infrastructure projects in Guatemala.
Later the same day, the ministry shared details about road maintenance work being carried out by personnel from COVIAL_CIV. According to their tweet posted at 16:23 UTC: "¡Seguimos conectando Guate!
A subsequent message described the specific tasks performed by these teams. As published on November 4: " Un equipo conformado por hombres y mujeres que día a día aportan su esfuerzo y dedicación, trabajan en:
Limpieza de cunetas
Retiro de desechos
Mantenimiento de señalización
Remozamiento de áreas aledañas a la carretera "
